The benefits of acupuncture during pregnancy has been verified by many scientific research studies. They have found that acupuncture can be a safe and worthwhile complimentary treatment during pregnancy. For pregnancy, acupuncture helps to relieve a host of symptoms, assists with labor and even aids in correcting a breech presentation.
Acupuncture & acupressure can be beneficial in many aspects of your pregnancy. For instance, when used in pre-labor to help induce, the first stage of labor for pain and ripening the cervix, the active stage of labor or if labor becomes sluggish. Acupuncture is able to naturally help with your energy level, because some women need acupuncture to boost energy and strength. Whereas some women need acupuncture to move stuck energy and some women need support calming anxiety or other issues that come up during the birthing process.
To help you experience your most optimal birth we mainly perform acupuncture, acupressure and ‘Tui Na’ massage. We also often include, electrical stimulation, ear acupuncture, ear seeds and essential oils into our treatments.
Acupuncture can be used to prepare the mother’s body for labor and delivery. It is also effective at reducing the length of labor and lessening the need for medical interventions.
There are points in acupuncture that are to be used with caution in pregnancy. Although when it comes time to induce labor, these points may be applied. Upon receiving your doctors approval to induce labor we will begin treatment for labor induction, which may include acupuncture, acupressure and electrical stimulation of acupuncture points. This process promotes the body to work more efficiently by promoting the release of endorphins, dilating the cervix and increasing the efficiency of the contractions.
Pain During Labor
Acupuncture or acupressure can be applied during labor to help significantly ease pain in the lower back and pelvic by blocking the pain receptors to the brain and increasing the efficiency of the contractions.
Many pregnant women prefer acupuncture over medication, in regards to vomiting and nausea. It also increases energy levels, helping women cope with the physical toll of labor and delivery. Acupuncture also provides a safe alternative to medication by significantly reducing stress and anxiety during labor and delivery.
Acupuncture assists with physical and mental energy during delivery, reducing fatigue, and improving blood circulation, leading to improved breast milk supply.
When your doctor gives the notification that your baby is breech, acupuncture with moxibustion can help by relaxing the muscles in the uterus and abdomen. This combination changes mother’s hormonal levels and the baby reacts to it by becoming more active, therefore making it more likely to turn. Manybabies will turn overnight during sleep.
Please allow twenty minutes, two times per day for two weeks. This will increase the turn rate of your breech baby. Done together this creates the ideal conditions for the baby to turn.
